About our guides

Editorial Approach

How Hydro Habitats selects sources, presents practical aquarium recommendations, and handles corrections.

How sources are used

Sources are selected for the claims they can support. Taxonomy records establish names and classification; research, institutional guidance, specialist references, and manufacturer documentation are used only within their relevant scope. A source about one species, product, measurement, or setting is not treated as proof of a broader claim.

Where evidence is limited or does not establish a value, the guide says so rather than filling the gap with an assumed range.

Practical recommendations and biological limits

Aquarium setup figures and care suggestions are practical starting points unless evidence supports a species-specific requirement or tolerance. They should not be read as universal biological limits, guarantees, or treatment instructions. Trade names and variable individual responses are identified where they affect interpretation.

Corrections and updates

Proposed corrections are checked against the relevant source and the scope of the claim. When evidence supports a change, the source content and its generated guide presentation are updated together. Unresolved questions remain qualified or are withheld from publication rather than presented as established fact.

To flag a possible error, contact Hydro Habitats and include the guide title, the statement in question, and any supporting reference.
